Mondelēz International Makes Friends with Miming

Continued Partnership with Save Philippine Seas for Environmental Learning
Learning about Waste Collection for Kids through Videos and Songs
Episode 1 launched on World Oceans Day

Snacks Company Mondelēz International is committed to growing its business by making their products in the right way, with positive impact for people and the planet. The Company calls it “Sustainable Snacking,” with a vision to help create a future where people and planet thrive. While sustainable snacking covers many areas of its supply chain, one area that the Company is focusing on is packaging. Mondelēz International commits that by 2025, 100% of its packaging will be designed to be recycled.

Apart from the Company’s actions to create better and less packaging, it also aims to support net zero waste through improved systems, aiming for a circular pack economy. They believe in education, of shaping recycling habits early on in childhood so that everyone can contribute to reducing waste today and in the future.

With this goal, Mondelēz International has renewed its partnership with advocacy group Save Philippine Seas (SPS) for educational materials on waste management. This year, the two have collaborated with Miming and Friends, an all-Filipino and homegrown YouTube channel focused on providing valuable lessons to kids through animation and songs.

Continued Partnership with Save Philippine Seas

The first episode of Miming and Friends supported by Mondelēz International was released on World Oceans Day on June 8, 2022 and is the first in a series of five. It talks about the importance of segregating waste at home, to ensure they don’t end up in the ocean. SPS serves as consultant and advisor to the Miming episodes on waste collection. Led by Anna Oposa, Executive Director and “Chief Mermaid,” SPS is an organization that aims to empower citizens towards environmental consciousness, leading to collective action and behavior change. In 2021, Mondelēz International and SPS released a series of infographics sharing the real reasons behind marine litter, entitled “There’s Plenty of Plastics in the Sea; How did this Happen?”

Partnering with Miming and Friends

Miming and Friends, led by Cat-Fish Miming, flying lizard Buboy, and Unicorn Anacorn, join the many friends they meet along the way in learning about the world. Other video topics include values, how to count and sing, and the importance of caring for each other and the environment – all from the multilingual and multicultural perspective of the Filipino experience. The channel is the creation of Miming and Fwends Animation Studios, formed by partners Ramon and Meryll del Prado from Dumaguete, Negros Oriental, “The values we espouse through Miming and Friends very much align with the values of Mondelēz International and Save Philippine Seas. We are thrilled about this partnership as it fully synergizes with the greater goal of having responsible children as they grow up to become mindful adults.”

“We are delighted to work with Mondelēz International and Miming and Friends for educational videos and songs about caring for our environment, particularly in helping shape waste collection habits early on among children,” adds Oposa. “We support waste collection projects in communities, and we also know that early education plays an important role in empowering everyone to prevent marine litter.”

Oposa ends, “On behalf of Mondelēz International, we would like to invite everyone to watch the first episode of our joint effort, and hope kids and adults alike learn from it.”

Request for your PSA Documents Online via PSAHelpline.ph

This is it! We’ve decided to tie the knot this year!

Planning a DIY wedding is nerve wracking. There’s a lot to tick on our checklist! One of the things on our list is the documents ~ birth certificate, CENOMAR (certificate of no marriage), marriage license, etc.

Now, where to go to request for our CENOMAR? I know that I can request those at PSA (Philippine Statistics Authority). However, since we already moved here in Rizal, I’m not familiar where the nearest PSA is in our area. Another problem is that I won’t be able to leave home during weekdays because of the kids’ online classes.

I came across PSA Helpline thru Mommy Bloggers Philippines and learned that they can help me request my much needed PSA documents delivered at my doorstep.

Here’s a list of the PSA documents you can request thru PSA birth certificate online application:
• Birth Certificate
• Marriage Certificate
• Death Certificate
• CENOMAR

Getting your documents thru PSA Helpline is as easy as 1, 2, 3!

Step 1 Go to their website at psahelpline.ph then click on order now. Choose the document you want to request.

On your browser, type psahelpline.ph
Click on the PSA document you need.

Step 2 Provide all the required details.

Once you press continue, you will be routed to the form.

Step 3 Post your payment online or over-the-counter. For pricing and payment options details click here. An email notification will be sent to your provided email.

Here’s a list of where you can post your payment. Click on your payment method of choice to see how you can pay.
Email notification from PSAHelpline.ph

Step 4 Wait for the delivery.
For MM> 3-4 working days; Outside MM> 3-8 working days

Take note that you can only request documents for you, your child, parents, and spouse (death certificate). For other relatives you may proceed to the nearest PSA Serbilis Center. You also need to be present on the delivery date to personally receive your requested PSA document/s.

I received the documents in 7 days thru 2Go.

I requested for our documents last May 4, 2022 and 2Go delivered it May 11, 2022. Glad I was able to avail of their services! It was very convenient and hassle-free for me. I didn’t have to leave the house anymore.

Have you tried requesting documents thru PSA online application? Share with me your experience!

PSAHelpline.ph is authorized by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) to accept requests for copy issuance of PSA birth certificate (certificate of live birth), marriage certificate (certificate of marriage), death certificate (certificate of death), and Certificate of No Marriage (CENOMAR) and its nationwide delivery. The service comes with the convenience of online and over-the-counter payment options that are accessible to clients and a customer care hotline and email support for information on ordering, payments, and delivery.

It started in 2000 as a call-in facility for clients who need copies of their PSA civil registry documents but are unable to visit a PSA outlet. The full-service website was launched in 2013, providing online and mobile access to more people who prefer to order their PSA certificates online and have these delivered to their homes.

When the National Statistics Office (NSO) was renamed Philippine Statistics Office (PSA), the service was rebranded from NSOHelpline.ph to PSAHelpline.ph in 2016. Clients are now able to place their orders while on-the-go and even after office hours with more accessible payment channels for their convenience and security. For more than two decades, PSAHelpline.ph has been providing a reliable alternative for processing PSA document requests from the public.

PSAHelpline.ph adheres to the rules and protocols set by the PSA and the Data Privacy Commission on the proper handling and delivery of civil registry documents.

My Top 3 Reasons Why I Love U.S. Potatoes + Potato Gnocchi Recipe

My kids have started school last month and we are still adjusting to their new schedules. This leaves me with not much time to prep for our daily meals, so I’m always on the lookout for quick and healthy recipes.

I try to incorporate their favorite vegetables in our meals and I’m thankful our family loves potatoes. We regularly buy spuds from the supermarket. Our choice? U.S. potatoes, of course!

Here’s my top 3 reasons why I love U.S. potatoes:

1. HEALTHY

Potatoes are more energy-packed than any other popular vegetable and have more potassium than a banana. A serving of potatoes (148 grams with skin on) contains 30% of the recommended daily value of Vitamin C. It is also a good source of Vitamin B6; contributes 7% of dietary fiber, 6% of iron and 3 grams of protein — and all with only 110 calories and no fat, cholesterol or sodium. Potatoes are naturally gluten-free, too.

2. AVAILABILITY

Top-quality U.S. potato products come in many forms: fresh, frozen and dehydrated. They are available in supermarkets, groceries, and membership shopping outlets nationwide.

3. VERSATILITY

Did you know you can also make dumplings, donuts, and whole lot of desserts using potatoes? I didn’t know that until I came across some potato recipes that really blew my mind! Amazing, right?

Lately, I have been enjoying cooking with the multipurpose U.S. dehydrated potatoes! Let me share with you a delicious and nutritious recipe I recently discovered: U.S. Potato Gnocchi with Basil, Parmesan and Butter.

U.S. Potato Gnocchi with Basil, Parmesan and Butter

Gnocchi are a varied family of dumplings in Italian cuisine. The dough of gnocchi is most often rolled out before it is cut into small pieces. The dumplings may be pressed with a fork or a cheese grater to make ridges or cut into little lumps.

I used U.S. potato dehydrated flakes to make my Potato Gnocchi. I rehydrated it first by boiling water with butter and salt. Once the butter and salt have melted, I removed them from the heat. I then added cold milk and the potato flakes. I stirred it gently until all the ingredients were incorporated. So easy! You can also easily adjust it for your desired texture.

U.S. Potato Dehydrated Flakes
Preparation of U.S. potato dehydrated flakes

I enjoyed making my Italian dumplings from scratch. The gnocchi was soft and chewy, just the way I like it. It was a hit with the kids and I’ll definitely cook this again. Another dish added to our menu! Check out my recipe below:

U.S. Potato Gnocchi with Basil, Parmesan and Butter
Ingredients

U.S. Potato Gnocchi with Basil, Parmesan and Butter

Ingredients:

1 cup rehydrated U.S. dehydrated potato flakes

1 ½ cups all-purpose flour

¼ cup all-purpose flour (for dusting)

1 large egg

1 liter water

1 tbsp butter, unsalted

1 tbsp garlic, minced

½ cup of basil leaves

• parmesan cheese, grated

• salt & pepper to taste

Preparation:

1. Rehydrate the potato flakes. Follow packaging instructions.

2. Add flour and egg to the rehydrated potato flakes and mix well until a soft dough forms.

3. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface. If the mixture is still sticky, add a little more flour.

4. Cut dough into 4 equal-sized pieces. Using your hands, gently roll each piece out to form a log about 2cm wide. Using a lightly floured knife, cut each log into 1.5cm-long pieces.

5. Roll each piece of gnocchi over a fork and pressed gently with another fork to form a dent in the back of each sides. This will help the sauce to cling to your cooked gnocchi.

6. Bring water to a boil. Add the gnocchi into the boiling water. The gnocchi will rise to the surface of the water once cooked. Continue cooking the gnocchi for 30-60 seconds then remove from the water and drain well.

7. Melt butter in a pan on medium heat. Sauté garlic. Toss cooked gnocchi until slightly toasted. Put salt and pepper to taste. Add basil leaves and remove from heat. Transfer to a plate and sprinkle with parmesan cheese and garnish with lemon (optional).

How to Get the New and Improved Philippine Postal ID

Are you like me who doesn’t have any valid IDs or proof of identity except my birth certificate? Fret no more because there’s one you can get easy and fast!

My valid IDs expired last 2020 and Andrei’s IDs expired earlier this year so we’re now having a hard time doing transactions because offices and banks always ask for it for security reasons. We have an important transaction and we needed an ID right away.

So if you’re wondering what ID you can get that won’t ask you for another valid ID (lol to this!), I can recommend you getting a postal ID because it’s the easiest (and fastest) to get.

Photo from PhlPost-Postal ID’s Official Facebook Page

The day before we went at the post office, I prepared our documents. Since it was Andrei’s first time to apply for a Postal ID, the documents he brought were:
• 2 copies of the application form
• NSO birth certificate (original & photocopy)
• credit card billing statement

That’s it! As for me, I renewed my Postal ID so I only brought:
• my expired digitized Postal ID and
• 2 copies of the application form

We arrived at Marikina Post Office around 11:30 am. There were 5 people ahead of us. We paid P650 for our IDs (rush) then our photo and biometrics were recorded. We were told to come back after a week to claim our Postal IDs. If you’re not in a hurry, you can apply for the regular one which will cost you P504 and it will delivered to you in 15-30 days (depends where you live).

It was also easy to claim the IDs, we just presented our claim stub on the day we were told to come back and we got our Postal IDs in less than 5 minutes.

BTW, you can apply at any Post Office nationwide. My address is in Makati but I applied in Marikina.

I think I can put my new postal ID more into use because so many government offices and banks are accepting it now as a valid ID.

Photo from PhlPost-Postal ID’s Official Facebook Page

Here’s a step-by-step guide on how you can get a Postal ID:
1. Bring 2 copies of your duly-accomplished Postal ID application form. You can download it here. There’s also forms available at the Post Office if you don’t have an option to print it out. Don’t forget to bring a pen.

2. Bring your proof of identity. Submit any 1 of the following:
    • Birth Certificate issued by NSO or Local Civil Registry
    • GSIS or SSS UMID card
    • valid Driver’s License

5 Dirtiest Spots in Your Home and How To Clean Them

We are spending more time indoors now than ever, and as we retreat to our sanctuary, it is vital to keep our indoor environment clean and hygienic all day long. However, germs have mastered the art of hiding in some areas—and they are usually not the easiest to clean! This includes our hard-to-wash fabrics which are always vulnerable to deep-seated germs and viruses we call Germumus, or germs, bacteria, and pathogens that appear invisible, but are already stealthily living in our hard-to-wash items.

When was the last time you cleaned your couch? Six months ago? Last year? Never? Bring on the power tools! Here are some ways to keep them clean and what you can do in between washes to keep common trouble spots around the house germ-free.

Couches and Sofas: We all love being couch potatoes but lounging on a dirty sofa is a no-no. Did you know that the average sofa has 12 times more bacteria than your toilet seat? As they can easily trap dirt, allergens, and bacteria in their soft fibers, experts recommend having them professionally cleaned every 6 months. At home, you can use a hand vacuum to clean debris and dirt from the sofa’s surface. Be sure not to forget the crevices where dirt can accumulate!

Curtains: Cleaning your curtains might be included in your low-priority tasks but they actually accumulate a lot more grime than meets the eye. Just like the couches, curtains can also trap dust and dirt. Schedule to wash your curtains twice or more a year with cool or lukewarm water and mild detergent.

Bed Sheets: Ideally, you should change your bedsheets and pillowcases at least once a week as they can have a buildup of oils, dirt, and sweat from daily use. Compared to the average toilet seat, a one-week-old bed sheet contains 29,000 more bacteria. To clean, check the care label and wash with the hottest water temperature setting indicated.

Carpets: Dirty carpets not only look bad but they’re also full of pollutants and grime. Experts recommend having them cleaned by a professional at least once a year or every quarter if you have pets or kids. If you can’t schedule a pro, use a sponge or soft-bristle brush and work a cleaning solution into a lather.

Area rugs: Unless your area rug is extremely delicate, cleaning your area rug is something you can easily take on yourself. High-traffic area rugs should be cleaned at least every 3 months to not only extend the life of your rugs but also to make sure dirt is regularly removed. Thoroughly vacuum the rug on both sides or take the smaller rugs outdoors and shake them off as much as you can.

Other Hard-to-Wash Fabrics: Any area of your home with high traffic and surfaces that get touched a lot is basically a germ bank. This includes your bags, shoes, pet bed, and even office chairs! You can clean them by vacuuming to remove loose dirt or running the covers through the washing machine (if possible) using the warmest appropriate water setting.

Regular laundering of fabrics and cleaning soft surfaces with soap and water will go a long way. But if you’re grossed out by all of the germs and bacteria that might be lurking in your home, you’re probably wondering what you can do in between washes to make sure these germ-laden spots are cleaned every day. Unfortunately, you cannot simply shake and pound out deep-seated Germumus. It helps, sure, but it’s definitely not enough.

As told by our experts, bacteria and viruses grow exponentially in these hard-to-wash fabrics and ordinary punas, pagpag, or vacuuming is not enough to remove them. “We come in contact with bacteria and viruses every day and millions of these linger on fabric items such as mattresses, sofas, rugs, and curtains, and the like,” said Prof. Joel C. Cornista, current President of the Philippine Society for Microbiology, Inc.. “Dusting or vacuuming every few weeks may be helpful but bacteria and viruses can still grow in these items in between your general cleaning days. Exposure to these bacteria and viruses may lead to infections and trigger allergies, and so it will be wise to degerm these items daily.

Fortunately, you need not worry anymore! The NEW Downy Antibac Fabric Spray is your quick and easy solution for the germumus in your hard-to-wash fabrics.
